The main objective of this study was to verify the strategic responses of the management and accounting graduate faculty towards CAPES’ evaluation system. Data revealed two distinguished graduate faculty groups: the first, with academy oriented values; the second, with values oriented to other professional segments. The results pointed out that the great majority of the graduate faculty group with academy oriented values presented acquiesce and compromise strategic responses towards CAPES’s evaluation system. On the other hand 60% of the graduate faculty group with values oriented towards others professional segments presented acquiescence and compromise strategic responses, while 40% of them presented avoid, defy and manipulate strategic responses. The results allow concluding the main oriented values do have an influence on strategic responses; however the degree of legitimacy and the institutionalization of the evaluation system do also play a major role.
