Prayer, teaching or action. Different ways to fulfill Zion's charisma

Abstract

Founded by Fr. Ratisbonne in 1842 to convert Jews to Catholicism, Zion's charisma enacts prayer, teaching and direct action. Zion was better known for its numerous boarding schools until the 1960s, when the incorporation of the Ancelles (1937) and the ecumenical turning contributed to the return to its origins. A historical research made in the archives of Paris points out that educational tasks made Sisters neglect the original charisma until the Second Vatican Council. Schools were then assigned to lay women and the Sisters undertook theological and biblical studies in order to participate in the mutual esteem movement towards the Jewish people.
