Abstract
This article aims to describe and analyze, in the light of Freirean pedagogy, some tensions identified in the approach to gender and violence issues by a social project in Rio de Janeiro. Throughout the field research, the difficulty of deepening the themes, supposedly central to the proposal, was noted, identifying a mismatch between the “banking” education format adopted by the responsible institution and the problematizing and liberating characteristic of the theoretically proposed approach on gender equity and the construction of non-violent and more inclusive masculinities.
