The circular hydraulic jump

Abstract

We describe a simple, low-cost experiment for observing and investigating the circular hydraulic jump. A simple model, accessible to undergraduate students in the early years of their studies, shows good agreement with the experimental results. The work described here enables students to explore basic concepts of fluid mechanics both theoretically and experimentally.
