Ocurrence of Badnavirus on banana fruits in the state of Amazonas, Brazil

The Brazilian banana production serves the domestic market, however, due to phytosanitary problems the yield, mainly in the state of Amazonas, is considered low. Recently, it was found in the state of Amazonas, the occurrence of necrotic lesions with irregular shape on fruits of tetraploid hybrids plants 'FHIA 01', 'FHIA 18', 'BRS Caprichosa', 'BRS Garantida', 'Preciosa' and 'Pacovan Ken' depreciating them to commercialization. By PCR analysis with the BADNA 1A and BADNA 4 primers were detected the presence of Badnavirus correlated with BSV-BR1 strain and with Banana streak Uganda B virus. This is the first time such symptoms are reported in fruits associated with Badnavirus in the country.
