Phonological processes: assessment and treatmentPurpose: to analyze the speech in children and implement an intervention program of 15 children, phonologically delayed, between the ages 4 and 6 years; checking if the phonological processes found increased with the age and knowing if the sample had non-systematic processes, common among their ages or lower ages.
Methods: the phonological development of 15 children, phonologically delayed, between the ages of 4 and 6 years, was examined.
Results: an intervention program communicatively and functionally focused, combining minimal pairs, phonological processes and auditory discrimination of phonemes was very effective. Strategies of speech simplification relating more to the structural process of the syllable than to the substitute processes were detected. The procedure used to analyze the process could affect the type of processes which will appear.
Conclusion: no agerelated differences were found and, regarding phonological processes, we discovered that some of them were similar to normal speech development, but others were more idiosyncratic.
