Purpose: to check the variation of Speech Acknowledgement Index (SAI) in presbyacusics elderly with or without recruitment.
Methods: 15 handbooks of presbyacusics elderly with recruitment and 15 without recruitment were evaluated, with age between 60 and 75 years, emphasizing the results of SAI.
Results: patients with recruitment show higher percentage with regard to SAI alterations when compared to patients without recruitment. Acoustic information loss lessens the probability of speech’s comprehension and the longer time of information processing contributes to this problem. Phenomenon recruitment is distortion of sound and a intolerance for high intensity sounds.
Conclusion: it was evidenced by the evaluations that there is a difference between SAI and presbyacusics with or without recruitment.
