The Journal of School of Nursing (Revista da Escola de Enfermagem da USP - REEUSP) is a peer-reviewed, continuously published journal with one volume per year, with the aim of publishing original empirical articles that represent a significant advance for professional practice or the fundamentals of Nursing.

Mission: to promote the production and dissemination of knowledge in nursing and related areas, focusing on international dialogue for the advancement of Nursing Science.

REEUSP follows the Open Access model, allowing unrestricted virtual access (including financial restrictions) to all scientific texts published by the journal. 

Open access is the condition in which the copyright holder of an academic work grants rights of use to third parties using an open license (Creative Commons Attribution, CC-BY), allowing immediate free access to the work and authorizing any user to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of articles, track them for indexing, pass them on as data to software, or use them for any other legal purpose.

Compliance with Open Science

REEUSP follows the Gold Open Access model and encourages the sharing of research data in Open Access repositories. Research data is understood to mean: models, methods, reports, software, procedures, questionnaires, statistics, i.e., data that can be shared and potentially useful for the development of new research.

REEUSP supports the transparent and accessible sharing of knowledge through collaborative networks and adopts the FAIR principles (find, access, interoperate, and reuse data).

For research involving human subjects, the following will be required:

• a copy of the approval by the CEP of the National Research Ethics Commission (Comissão Nacional de Ética em Pesquisa - CONEP), in accordance with the rules and regulations of the National Health Council (Conselho Nacional de Saúde - CNS) or equivalent body in the country of origin of the research;
• TCLE;
• CEP approval and TCLE must be cited in the Ethical Aspects of the manuscript.

For research involving animals, approval from the Animal Use Ethics Committee is required.

REEUSP publishes original empirical articles that represent a significant advance for professional practice or the fundamentals of Nursing.

A preprint is a version of the manuscript that has not yet been peer-reviewed.

Preprints share with journals the novelty of the publication of articles and inhibit the use of the double-blind procedure in the evaluation of manuscripts.

REEUSP accepts manuscripts deposited on non-commercial preprint servers, such as SciELO Preprints, which follows the recommendations of Transparency and Openness Promotion (TOP).

The author must inform REEUSP of the DOI number assigned to the preprint and the name of the server where it was deposited.

The use of preprints is an option and choice of the authors.

All scientific texts submitted to REEUSP undergo peer review, preserving the anonymity of authors and reviewers.

The exception is manuscripts deposited in preprints, whose authors can be viewed by reviewers.

The name of the Associate Editor conducting the evaluation will be disclosed in each published article.

The Scientific Editor preliminarily analyzes the text and decides whether or not to continue with the manuscript in the editorial process. If approved, the manuscript is sent to an Associate Editor, who decides whether to continue with the editorial process and sends it to two independent reviewers for their opinion. In the final stage, based on the reviewers' evaluation and the Associate Editor's recommendation, the Scientific Editor decides whether to approve or reject the manuscript.

This decision concerns “the sharing of data, codes, methods, and other materials used and resulting from research that generally underlies the texts of articles published by journals.” 

REEUSP requests the completion of the  Data Availability Statement, which must be attached to the ScholarOne system as a complementary file for review by the reviewers.

To deposit Research Data, authors must choose the repository they consider most appropriate for sharing their data and make the deposit. Several Open Access repositories are available, such as: SciELO Data, USP Scientific Data Repository, and Harvard Dataverse.

The author must inform REEUSP of the DOI number assigned to the research data and/or the name of the server where it was deposited. The material must comply with the Creative Commons license for data sharing and be cited as “Data Availability” after the Conclusion/Final Considerations section of the manuscript.

Contributions to Costs for Publication (CCPs)

Contributions to Costs for Publication (CCPs) are financial contributions that help cover the total or partial costs of publishing research in open access under a CC-BY license and are not for profit.

Submitting a manuscript to REEUSP does not incur any costs for authors.

To ensure support services for editing, publishing, indexing, and disseminating scientific journals, REEUSP will request a Publication Cost Contribution (PPC) as described below:

CCP Evaluation

The CCP Evaluation, in the amount of R$400.00, must be paid after the article is approved in the First Stage (pre-analysis).

The corresponding author will receive an email informing them of their approval in the first stage and requesting payment of the CCP Evaluation.

*After approval of the article in the First Stage, payment and submission of proof of payment of the CCP Evaluation, the article will proceed to the Second Stage of evaluation.

CCP Publishing

The CCP Publishing fee, in the amount of R$1,600.00, will only be requested if the article is “Accepted” for publication.

REEUSP will inform authors of acceptance and provide instructions regarding payment of the CCP Publishing fee and other steps for publication of the article.

The CCP Editing fee, in the amount of USD 500.00, will only be requested if the article is “Accepted” for publication.

REEUSP will inform the authors about the acceptance and provide instructions regarding the payment of the CCP Editing fee and other steps for the publication of the article.

Performed after manuscript approval.

The costs of revision and translation are the responsibility of the authors.

Information regarding the translation and revision procedure will be sent to authors individually.

As a participant in the SciELO program, REEUSP follows the norms and recommendations of ethical standards and responsibility in scientific communication established by national and international institutions, among which the following stand out: COPE, CSE, Equator Network, ICMJE, and the SciELO Manual of Good Practices for Strengthening Ethics in Scientific Publication.

To promote the originality of texts, the journal adopts programs to check for duplication with previously published texts. The journal informs authors of the program used in the article submission process.

Editors and reviewers must prioritize impartiality, integrity, and confidentiality in their evaluation, giving priority to constructive criticism and the deadline agreed upon with the journal.

REEUSP follows the guidelines for decision-making on retractions and errata. Articles already published in which misconduct is identified remain indexed in the SciELO database as retracted. The retraction notice  documents the reason, duly referenced, through communication from the author or editor or other authorized agent, and published in the same journal. The retraction may be partial when the misconduct applies to a specific part of the article, without, however, compromising the published research as a whole. The article cannot be “unpublished.”

Cases of errors or flaws, regardless of their nature or origin, which do not constitute misconduct, are corrected by means of  erratum.

The journal will publish erratum, corrections, or retractions as quickly as possible.

Conflicts of interest may be personal, commercial, political, academic, or financial in nature. Conflicts of interest may arise when authors, reviewers, or editors have interests that may influence the preparation or evaluation of manuscripts. When submitting a manuscript, authors are responsible for recognizing and disclosing financial or other conflicts that may have influenced the work. If there is a conflict of interest, even if only potential, the author(s) must disclose it in a separate signed document attached to the submission platform. Authors must indicate four possible reviewers for the evaluation of the manuscript. These must be PhDs who can be found on the Lattes Platform according to the theme of the manuscript, must not have any conflicts of interest, and must not belong to the institutions of any of the authors. The names may or may not be accepted by the Associate Editors.

To detect similarities, REEUSP uses iThenticate software, which analyzes the content of submitted manuscripts. Those that show similarity to others already published will be excluded from the evaluation process.

Authors must indicate whether Artificial Intelligence tools were used in the Method section of the manuscript and also in the Letter to the Editor.

The use of tools and resources that assist authors in preparing their manuscripts is recommended, provided that attribution standards are respected and scientific ethics and integrity are upheld.

Thus, authors have the right and freedom to use tools and resources that assist in the preparation, writing, revision, and translation of their articles, book chapters, or books. Many of these tools and resources are provided by AI applications. However, only humans can be authors.

The REEUSP editorial team, in addition to the authors who publish in the journal, must always observe the guidelines on Sex and Gender Equity in Research (Sex and Gender Equity in Research – SAGER). The SAGER guidelines comprise a set of guidelines that guide the reporting of information on sex and gender in study design, data analysis, and the results and interpretation of findings. In addition, REEUSP observes the gender equity policy in the formation of its editorial board.

Authors of articles published by REEUSP retain the copyright of their works, licensing them under the Creative Commons Attribution BY 4.0 license, which allows articles to be reused and distributed without restriction, provided that the original work is correctly cited.

Authors grant the journal the right of first publication.

All REEUSP content is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution BY License (except where identified).

REEUSP is open access and free of charge.

Authors assume full responsibility for the content of the published article.

REEUSP encourages authors to self-archive their accepted manuscripts by publishing them on personal blogs, institutional repositories, and academic social media, as well as posting them on their personal social media, provided that a complete citation to the journal's website version is included.

Manuscripts may be submitted in Portuguese, English, or Spanish and must be intended exclusively for REEUSP. Simultaneous submission of the manuscript, in whole or in part, to another journal is not permitted.

All published manuscripts will receive a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) number.

Submissions must be made online through the ScholarOne system, accompanied by a letter to the Scientific Editor highlighting the advances and contributions of the text in relation to recent publications on the subject. In addition, the reasons for selecting REEUSP for submission must be stated.

All authors must associate their ORCID registration number with their ScholarOne profile and provide it at the time of submission.

Thus, when submitting the manuscript, the authors' names must be written in full, their contribution must be detailed, and they must sign and submit the Statement of Responsibility and Copyright.

Original Article: results of primary research, with rigorous, clear methodology, in-depth discussion, and interface with national and international scientific literature. Limited to 15 pages in total (including abstract, tables, figures, and references).

Systematic Review: analysis of primary studies, quantitative or qualitative, that synthesizes evidence. Limited to 25 pages in total (including abstract, tables, figures, and references).

Scope Review: developed to map the key concepts that underpin a field of research, as well as to clarify the definitions and/or conceptual boundaries of a topic. Limited to 25 pages in total (including abstract, tables, figures, and references).

Note: REEUSP does not accept Integrative Reviews.

Theoretical Study: analysis of theories or methods that underpin the science of Nursing or related areas that contribute to the development of knowledge in Nursing. Limited to 15 pages in total (including abstract, tables, figures, and references).

Evidence Implementation Report: reports on the implementation of the best scientific evidence in health services, according to the methodology of The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). Limited to 25 pages in total (including abstract, tables, figures, results and discussion of baseline and follow-up audits, and references).

Professional Experience Report: publication of reports on experiences involving the work of nurses and professionals in fields related to nursing and health, in different professional practice settings, and address the application of procedures or intervention methodologies in clinical cases, health education, professional training (pedagogical experience), implementation of research designs (application of innovative methodological strategies), and analysis of conceptual implications. The text should be limited to 15 pages in total (including abstract, tables, figures, and references). Experience reports involving clinical cases must provide proof of ethical approval by the CEP/CONEP (Brazilian Ethics national Committees) System, in accordance with the guidelines of CONEP Circular Letter No. 166/2018. 

Letter to the Editor: intended for readers' comments on articles published in the Journal, expressing agreement or disagreement on a topic addressed. Limited to one page in total.

Editorial and Point of View: these are usually invited by the Scientific Editor. They are not subject to peer review and no publishing fee is charged.

REEUSP adopts qualification strategies for the publication of research studies, such as those of the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), and Enhancing the Quality and Transparency of Health Research (EQUATOR Network). These are resources that favor the potential for publication and its use in research references.

Below are some validated international protocols to be used according to the research design:

Clinical Trials: CONSORT (Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials) and identification of Clinical Trial Registries validated by the criteria established by the WHO and the ICMJE, whose addresses are available on the ICMJE website. The identification number must appear at the end of the abstract.

Observational Studies: STROBE (Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology).

Qualitative Studies: COREQ (Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research).

Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses: PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses), for quantitative reviews, and ENTREQ (Enhancing Transparency in Reporting the Synthesis of Qualitative Research), for qualitative reviews.

Scoping Reviews: PRISMA-ScR (PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews: Checklist and Explanation). 

There is no limit to the number of authors, but those designated as authors must have participated substantially in the preparation of the manuscript and assume responsibility for its content. The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) recommends that authorship be based on substantial contributions: 

a) in the conception or design of the work;

b) in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data;

c) in the writing of the article or its critical revision;

d) in the final approval of the version to be published.

To indicate the authors' contributions, it is recommended to use CREDiT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy).

Thus, when submitting the manuscript, the authors' names must be written in full, their contributions must be detailed, and the Statement of Responsibility and Copyright must be signed and submitted.

The article must be submitted exclusively to REEUSP and should not be submitted to any other journal.
