Abstract:
The textbook is a cultural artifact; it assists in the teaching practice and brings meanings that concern knowledge and values. The debate on gender and sexuality relations is necessary in Basic Education, and the textbook works as a subsidy to address this issue, making it possible to overcome the naturalization of aspects related to gender and sexuality, based on heteronormative and androcentric social hierarchies. Thus, the discussion in this article is based on the theoretical approach to aspects that, through cultural, historical, social and political processes, anchors the possibilities and limitations of promoting the discussion of gender and sexuality relations in textbooks and in science teaching.
