RESUMO O estudo de Inteligência Artificial (IA) tem sido perseguido, desde seu início, segundo dois estilos diferentes, jocosamente referidos como scruffy (desgrenhado) e neat (empertigado). Esses estilos na verdade refletem distintas visões sobre a disciplina e seus objetivos. Neste artigo revisamos a tensão entre desgrenhados e empertigados ao longo da história da IA. Analisamos o impacto do atual desempenho de métodos de aprendizado profundo nesse debate, sugerindo que o desenvolvimento de arquiteturas computacionais amplas é um caminho particularmente promissor para a IA.

ABSTRACT The study of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been pursued from the very beginning in two different styles, jokingly referred to as scruffy and neat. These styles actually reflect distinct viewpoints of the discipline and its objectives. In this paper, we review the tension between scruffies and neats over the history of AI. We analyze the impact of current deep learning methods in this debate, suggesting that the development of broad computational architectures is a particularly promising path for AI.

RESUMO Estamos usando tecnologias baseadas em Inteligência Artificial em um número crescente de sistemas e ferramentas. A Inteligência Artificial pode tornar reduzir a necessidade da presença humana em muitas atividades perigosas, monótonas e cansativas, nos liberando para atividades menos perigosas e mais desafiadoras e estimulantes. Ao mesmo tempo, a Inteligência Artificial pode aumentar riscos existentes e trazer novos riscos. Para evitar ou reduzir esses riscos, é necessário o desenvolvimento de novos algoritmos de Inteligência Artificial, ou seu uso de maneiras novas e inovadoras, levando em consideração questões éticas, sociais e legais.

ABSTRACT We are using Artificial Intelligence-based technologies in an increasing number of systems and tools. Artificial Intelligence can reduce the need for human presence in many dangerous, monotonous and tiring activities, freeing us for less dangerous and more challenging and stimulating activities. At the same time, Artificial Intelligence can increase existing risks and introduce new risks. To avoid or reduce these risks, new Artificial Intelligence algorithms must be developed or used in new and innovative ways, taking into account ethical, social and legal issues.

RESUMO Este artigo tem como objetivo prover informações para que o leitor comum possa melhor entender os principais aspectos da IA, em que ela difere da computação convencional e como ela pode ser inserida nos processos organizacionais da sociedade humana. Além disso, busca evidenciar os grandes avanços e potenciais riscos que essa tecnologia, tal como qualquer outra, pode provocar caso os atores envolvidos na sua produção, utilização e regulação não criem um espaço de discussão adequado destas questões.

RESUMO Neste artigo apresentamos um posicionamento sobre a área de processamento de língua natural em português, seus desenvolvimentos desde o princípio até a explosão de aplicações modernas baseadas em aprendizado de máquina. Exploramos os desafios que a área necessita enfrentar no momento, tanto de natureza técnica quanto de natureza ética e moral, e concluímos com a inabalável associação do processamento de língua natural com os estudos linguísticos.

RESUMO Após 64 anos de seu surgimento, a Inteligência Artificial (IA) enfrenta o complexo e o incerto dos nossos dias. Nesse período de sua existência, podem-se destacar dois “invernos” (1980 e 1993) em que as aplicações eram interessantes, mas a IA não conseguiu dar respostas adequadas: na compreensão da linguagem e no diagnóstico médico. Por outro lado, a IA apresentou duas décadas de progressos (2000 e 2010), em que as aplicações se mantiveram, mas as respostas da IA apresentaram avanços na tradução automática (Google), no reconhecimento de imagens (a primeira a utilizar a tecnologia foi a Apple, no iPhone 10), diagnóstico do câncer (IBM Watson) e carros autônomos (dentre outras, a Tesla). Este texto é fruto da revisão sistemática da literatura e da experiência da autora na área.

ABSTRACT Sixty-four years after its emergence, Artificial Intelligence (AI) faces the complexity and uncertainty of our day. During this period, two “winters” (1980 and 1993) can be highlighted where applications were interesting, but AI was not able to provide adequate responses, for example, in understanding language and in medical diagnosis. On the other hand, AI enjoyed two decades of progress (2000 and 2010), where the applications remained, but AI responses advanced in automatic translation (Google), image recognition (Apple was the first to use the technology, on its iPhone X), cancer diagnosis (IBM’s Watson) and autonomous cars (among others, Tesla). This text is the result of a systematic review of the literature and of the author’s experience in the area.

RESUMO A área de Inteligência Artificial demonstrou avanços extraordinários nos últimos anos e, atualmente, é utilizada para solucionar inúmeros problemas tecnológicos e econômicos. Como boa parte do sucesso atual da Inteligência Artificial se deve às técnicas de Aprendizado de Máquina, particularmente às Redes Neurais Artificiais, neste artigo falamos dessas áreas, estado atual, desafios e oportunidades de pesquisas. Vamos também mencionar preocupações com impactos sociais e questões éticas.

Because much of the current success of Artificial Intelligence derives from Machine Learning techniques, particularly Neural Networks, this article will discuss these areas of research as well as the current state, challenges and research opportunities of AI. We will also mention concerns about social impacts and ethical issues.

RESUMO A área de sistemas inteligentes de transporte há muito investiga como empregar tecnologias da informação e comunicação a fim de melhorar a eficiência do sistema como um todo. Isso se traduz basicamente em monitorar e gerenciar a oferta (rede viária, semáforos etc.) e a demanda (deslocamentos de pessoas e mercadorias). A esse esforço, mais recentemente, estão sendo adicionadas técnicas de inteligência artificial. Essa tem o potencial de melhorar a utilização da infraestrutura existente, a fim de melhor atender a demanda. Neste trabalho é fornecido um panorama focado especificamente em duas tarefas onde a inteligência artificial tem contribuições relevantes, a saber, controle semafórico e escolha de rotas. Os trabalhos aqui discutidos objetivam otimizar a oferta e/ou distribuir a demanda.

ABSTRACT The field of of intelligent transportation systems has long investigated how to employ information and communication technologies to improve the efficiency of the system as a whole. This basically means to monitor and manage both supply (traffic network, traffic signals etc.) and demand (vehicles, people and goods). More recently, artificial intelligence techniques are being added to this effort, as they have the potential to improve the usage of existing infrastructure to meet the corresponding demand. In this paper, an overview is given, focusing specifically on two tasks where artificial intelligence has made relevant contributions, namely, traffic signal controls and route choices. The works discussed here aim at optimize the supply and/or distribute the demand.

RESUMO A Ciência Forense Digital surgiu da necessidade de tratar problemas forenses na era digital. Seu mais recente desafio está relacionado ao surgimento das mídias sociais, intensificado pelos avanços da Inteligência Artificial. A produção massiva de dados nas mídias sociais tornou a análise forense mais complexa, especialmente pelo aperfeiçoamento de modelos computacionais capazes de gerar conteúdo artificial com alto realismo. Assim, tem-se a necessidade da aplicação de técnicas de Inteligência Artificial para tratar esse imenso volume de informação. Neste artigo, apresentamos desafios e oportunidades associados à aplicação dessas técnicas, além de fornecer exemplos de seu uso em situações reais. Discutimos os problemas que surgem em contextos sensíveis e como a comunidade científica tem abordado esses tópicos. Por fim, delineamos futuros caminhos de pesquisa a serem explorados.

ABSTRACT Digital Forensics emerged from the need to perform forensic tasks in the digital age. Its most recent challenges are related to the popularization of social media and were intensified by the advance of Artificial Intelligence. The generation of massive social media data made forensic analyses more complex, mainly due to improvements in computational models able to artificially create highly realistic content. Because of this, Artificial Intelligence techniques have been studied and used to process the massive volume of information. This paper discusses the challenges and opportunities associated with such methods and provides real case examples, as well as the problems that arise when using these approaches in sensitive contexts and how the scientific community has approached these topics. Finally, it draws future research paths to be explored.

RESUMO O fim dos empregos é anunciado como tendência incontornável ao menos desde o século XIX. A previsão e suas consequências ocuparam algumas das melhores mentes do pensamento social desde então. A revolução digital trouxe novo alento a essa profecia. Este artigo procura mostrar que, embora as formas mais avançadas da revolução digital (a Inteligência Artificial, a Aprendizagem de Máquinas e a Internet das Coisas) já estejam substituindo boa parte dos trabalhos atualmente existentes, não é aí que reside sua maior ameaça. O problema maior da revolução tecnológica do século XXI é que ela está fortalecendo uma polarização social do mercado de trabalho que vai na contramão do que foram as bases do próprio Estado de bem-estar do século XX.

ABSTRACT The end of jobs is heralded as an inescapable trend at least since the 19th century. The prediction and its aftermath have occupied some of the best minds in social thinking since then. The digital revolution has given new impetus to this prophecy. This article seeks to show that, although the more advanced forms of the digital revolution (artificial intelligence, machine learning and the Internet of Things) are already replacing many of the jobs that currently exist, this is not where greatest threat lies. The biggest problem with the technological revolution of the 21st century is that it is exacerbating the social polarization of the labor market that goes against the very foundations of the welfare state of the 20th century.

RESUMO Apesar de que a grande diferenciação que existe no ensino superior brasileiro seja amplamente conhecida, e que diferentes tipos de instituições tenham objetivos e produzam resultados também distintos, nas áreas de ensino de graduação, pós-graduação e pesquisa, essas diferenças não são reconhecidas com todas as suas implicações pela legislação nem pelo sistema de avaliação adotado pelo Ministério da Educação no Brasil. O público, formado por estudantes atuais e futuros, assim como por seus empregadores, tampouco é informado a respeito dessas diferenças. O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar uma proposta de classificação ou tipologia das instituições de educação superior brasileiras que identifique com clareza essas diferenças, e que possa servir de base para um sistema de informações e procedimentos de avaliação que tomem em conta essa variedade de características, objetivos e resultados. Isso é feito agrupando-se instituições que tenham perfis semelhantes, do ponto de vista de seu porte, natureza jurídica e envolvimento com atividades de ensino e pós-graduação, e verificando-se até que ponto essas diferenças de tipos correspondem também a diferenças em relação às características de professores, alunos, áreas de atuação e atuação. Na última parte discutimos algumas implicações dessa tipologia para o sistema de avaliação da educação superior e, mais amplamente, para a melhoria da qualidade e desempenho da educação superior do país como um todo.

ABSTRACT Although the great differentiation that exists in Brazilian higher education is widely known, and even if different types of institutions have different objectives and produce different results in the undergraduate, graduate and research levels, the full implication of these differences is not recognized by the legislation or by the evaluation system adopted by the Ministry of Education in Brazil. Neither is the public, i.e., current and future students and their employers, informed of these differences. The objective of this work is to present a classification or typology proposal for Brazilian higher education institutions that clearly identifies these differences, and that can serve as a basis for a system of information and evaluation procedures that take into account this variety of characteristics, objectives and results. This is done by grouping institutions that have similar profiles, from the point of view of size, legal status and involvement with teaching and graduate activities, and assessing the extent to which differences in type correspond to differences in the characteristics of faculty, students, areas of activity and performance. In the final part, we discuss some implications of this typology for the higher education evaluation system and, more broadly, for improving the quality and performance of higher education in the country as a whole.

RESUMO A Agricultura Urbana (AU) tem sido apontada, mais recentemente, como elemento importante nos discursos e nas práticas que visam à segurança alimentar urbana. O presente artigo procurou discutir a produção agrícola do Município de São Paulo (MSP) e seu escoamento, considerando a diversidade de perfis que a AU pode assumir. Para tal, foi avaliada a produção agrícola em bases de dados oficiais. No que se refere à comercialização, foram coletadas informações em sete entrevistas semiestruturadas com agricultores do MSP entre 2018 e 2020. Os principais resultados encontrados indicam que houve um crescimento das práticas agropecuárias no município, acessando uma ampla variedade de canais de comercialização. A abertura de novos mercados, o desenvolvimento de políticas públicas e o reconhecimento público foram essenciais para o crescimento da agricultura no MSP.

ABSTRACT Urban agriculture (UA) has recently been pointed out as an important element in the discussion and practices of urban food security. This article seeks to discuss agricultural production and distribution in the city of São Paulo , considering the diversity of profiles that UA can assume. To this end, official databases were used to compute agricultural production. With regard to commercialization, information was collected from seven semi-structured interviews with farmers of the city of São Paulo between 2018 and 2020. The main findings indicate that there was an increase in agricultural practices in the city, encompassing a wide variety of commercialization channels. The opening of new markets, the development of public policies and public recognition were essential for the growth of agriculture in the city of São Paulo.

RESUMO O artigo consiste em uma revisão sistemática da literatura sobre a multifuncionalidade da agricultura urbana e periurbana realizada nas bases de dados Science Direct (Elsevier), Scientific Electronic Library (Scielo) e Portal de Periódicos Capes, utilizando os descritores: “agricultura urbana” AND “multifuncionalidade”, “agricultura urbana” AND “multifuncional”, “urban agriculture” AND “multifunctionality”, “urban agriculture” AND “multifunctional. Foram selecionados de acordo com os critérios de busca, inclusão e exclusão 14 artigos publicados com aderência ao tema e interesse da pesquisa. Para cada um dos artigos buscaram-se identificar sete tipos de dado ao longo da análise, sendo eles: (1) título; (2) ano de publicação; (3) autores; (4) periódico; (5) local do estudo; (6) tipologias de AUP; e (7) funções da AUP. Foi finalmente elaborada uma classificação das funções da AUP em três grandes dimensões: sociocultural, econômica e ambiental. Ficou evidenciado que a AUP em suas diversas formas e tipos apresenta benefícios e, poderia ser utilizada e estimulada por meio de políticas públicas como estratégia para o desenvolvimento de sistemas alimentares mais sustentáveis e para que os ambientes urbanos e periurbanos sejam locais mais saudáveis. Finalmente foi possível concluir que a AUP pode ser uma importante ferramenta na busca de atingir os Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável (ODS), tal como preconizado pela Organização das Nações Unidas em 2015.

ABSTRACT The article is a systematic review of the literature on the multifunctionality of urban and peri-urban agriculture (UPA) found in the Science Direct (Elsevier), Scientific Electronic Library (Scielo) and Portal de Periódicos CAPES databases, using the descriptors “agricultura urbana” AND “multifuncionalidade”, “agricultura urbana” AND “multifuncional”, “urban agriculture” AND “multifunctionality”, “urban agriculture” AND “multifunctional”. Fourteen articles were selected according to these search, inclusion and exclusion criteria that pertained to this theme and research interest. For each article, seven types of data were identified during text analysis, as follows: (1) title; (2) year of publication; (3) authors; (4) journal; (5) location of study; (6) types of UPA; and (7) functions of UPA. It was possible to develop a classification for the UPA functions in three major dimensions: sociocultural, economic and environmental. It became clear that UPA and its function and types provide benefits and can be used and stimulated through public policies as a strategy for the development of sustainable food systems and healthier urban and peri-urban environments. Finally, it was possible to conclude that UPA can be an important tool to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as recommended by the United Nations in 2015.

RESUMO A partir dos anos 2000, diversas ações voltadas para a agricultura urbana e periurbana no município de São Paulo surgiram e ganharam força, impactando diretamente a atividade agrícola da maior metrópole brasileira. No extremo sul, houve a atuação do poder público, da Universidade de São Paulo e de diversas ONG, o que levou ao incentivo da prática agroecológica, ao surgimento da única cooperativa de agricultores paulistanos, a Cooperapas, e à ampliação da produção e comercialização de alimentos agroecológicos para a cidade de São Paulo.

ABSTRACT Since the 2000s, several actions focused on urban and peri-urban agriculture in the city of São Paulo emerged and gained strength, directly impacting on the agricultural activity of the largest Brazilian metropolis. In the extreme south, the government, the University of São Paulo and several NGOs carried out actions that encouraged agroecological practices, the emergence of the only cooperative of farmers in São Paulo, Cooperapas, and the expansion of the production and commercialization of agroecological foods for the city of São Paulo.

RESUMO Este artigo aborda a vida cotidiana de hortas comunitárias nas cidades de Rennes (França) e de São Paulo (Brasil). Reconhecendo-se os diferentes contextos socioespaciais, não se almeja estabelecer uma comparação, mas expor os discursos e as práticas dos hortelões urbanos de cada localidade, revelando suas dinâmicas e experiências próprias, que se encontram, por sua vez, na materialização de alternativas ao urbano. As práticas hortícolas, pautadas pelo trabalho e pelo engajamento coletivo, adentram as possibilidades de participação direta dos cidadãos para a transformação da cidade contemporânea, reativando os vínculos comunitários, os laços de afetividade e de proximidade socioespaciais, além de estabelecerem novos modos de se relacionar com o poder público.

ABSTRACT This article discusses the daily life of community vegetable gardens in the cities of Rennes (France) and São Paulo (Brazil). Acknowledging the different socio-spatial contexts, it does not intend to establish comparisons, but to expose the ideas and practices of the urban gardeners in each location, revealing their own dynamics and experiences, which are, in turn, found in the materialization of alternatives to urban life. Horticultural practices based on collective work and engagement, point to the possibilities of direct citizen participation in the transformation of the contemporary city, reactivating community links, bonds of affection and socio-spatial proximity, in addition to establishing new ways of relating to the government.

RESUMO Este artigo tem por objetivo explorar conceitualmente o movimento de ativismo alimentar chamado “locavorismo”, contextualizando seu surgimento e algumas de suas manifestações. Ao ser colocado em prática, o locavorismo pode ter efeitos diversos e até mesmo antagônicos. Para que fossem analisadas essas contradições, foram entrevistadas duas organizações de agricultores na cidade de São Paulo inseridas em circuitos de consumo local para que se fizessem compreender na prática os potenciais efeitos sociais e ambientais deste tipo de compra.

ABSTRACT This article is a conceptual explorations of the food activist movement called “locavorism”, contextualizing its emergence and some of its manifestations. When put into practice, locavorism can have diverse and even antagonistic effects. In order to analyze these contradictions, interviews were conducted with two farmers’ organizations in the city of São Paulo, inserted in local consumption circuits, so that the potential social and environmental effects of this type of procurement could be understood in practice.

RESUMO Nas cidades de Areias e São José do Barreiro (Vale do Paraíba Paulista) encontra-se uma agricultura praticada em quintais urbanos, cercada de saberes sobre cultivo, coleta e consumo de diversas plantas consideradas não convencionais para o grande mercado. A pesquisa que identificou isso teve como objetivos: caracterizar a agricultura urbana em quintais; realizar um inventário da agrobiodiversidade conhecida, com destaque para as plantas consideradas não convencionais (Panc) e demonstrar a sua importância na manutenção de saberes sobre o uso de espécies. Foram entrevistados 59 residentes, e encontradas 172 espécies e variedades alimentícias, das quais 35 são consideradas não convencionais. A agricultura realizada nos quintais urbanos tem significativa importância na manutenção de saberes sobre a agrobiodiversidade disponível, incluindo-se espécies alimentícias não convencionais espontâneas e cultivadas. Os quintais são espaços importantes para sua perpetuação e a sua manutenção se apresenta como condição sine qua non.

ABSTRACT In the cities of Areias and São José do Barreiro (the region of the Paraíba river valley) agriculture is practiced in urban vegetable gardens, surrounded by knowledge about cultivation, collection and consumption of various plants deemed non-conventional for the large market. The research that identified this aimed to characterize urban agriculture in home vegetable gardens, conduct an inventory of known agrobiodiversity with emphasis on non-conventional edible plants (PANC), and demonstrate their importance in preserving knowledge about the use of species. Fifty-nine residents were interviewed, and 172 species and food varieties were found, of which 35 are considered non-conventional. Agriculture in urban home gardens has significant importance in preserving knowledge about available agrobiodiversity, including spontaneous and cultivated non-conventional food species. Home vegetable gardens are important spaces for the perpetuation of this knowledge, the preservation of which a sine qua non condition.
