UNIVERSITY AND ETHICAL-AESTHETIC EDUCATION

ABSTRACT

The ethical claim of the idea of the university (HUMBOLDT, 2010a; 2010b) based on the unity between culture and science disintegrates due to the loss of common intentions, resulting in the demand for a new ethical education, which, articulated through learning processes (HABERMAS, 1987), gauges education through the link between ethics and aesthetics. The possibility of aesthetics to interpret desires and feelings in relation to the values that act in moral action is analyzed in the literary examples of Denis Diderot and Machado de Assis, based on indetermination and moral imagination. The aesthetic strength of these elements gives access to unexplored possibilities, not preconceived in structured models of behavior, which not only broaden self-knowledge, but also open up to difference, bringing lucidity to moral decisions.
