This study has as an objetive to verify, by means of questionaires sent to professionals of the public and private education systems of Ribeirão Preto and region, of there is or not a school psychology service. In the case that this service exists what are the attributions and difficulties of the psychologist. If this service does not exist how do the schools attempt to resolve their problems and what are the expectations of these professionals in relation to this service. The date revealed that this service, in spite of being restricted, is recognized, although it is necessary that the service is not only recognized by the school community but by society as well.
