School psychology in Brazil: a literature review on the field and its presence in graduation in psychology

Abstract:

This article is one of the results of the multicenter project "The formation of the school psychologist and curriculum guidelines in psychology: theoretical concepts, methodological foundations and professional practice." It aims to draw up an overview of discussions on the formation of the school psychologist in Brazil. The research took place in the LILACS database, with the keyword "training school psychologist." 19 papers were analyzed between the years 1988 and 2011, discussing issues between training and the role of the school psychologist. It was concluded that vocational training in school psychology, according to the authors surveyed, has not been constituted as a priority for training of psychologists. There is also the need to develop research and improve the knowledge of school psychology area, especially with regard to the curricula of the courses and the methodology by which the contents are taught to students.
