This journal adopts the Open Access model, ensuring virtual and unrestricted access to all scientific texts it publishes. Ensaio does not charge any fees (APC-free) and provides its articles free of charge on its platform and through the indexing services where it is listed, allowing their use in educational and non-commercial applications, provided proper attribution is given. The website content, journal information, and author guidelines are the responsibility of the journal's editorial team. The ideas and opinions expressed in the articles are the sole responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the journal. This journal ensures immediate access to its content, based on the fundamental principle that making scientific knowledge freely available to the public fosters the global democratization of information. Copyright for articles published in Ensaio belongs to the author, with first publication rights reserved to the journal. In this regard, the journal formally adopts the definition of open access established by the DOAJ, declaring that the copyright holder of all published academic work—the author—grants broad usage rights to third parties through a Creative Commons open license. Open Science Compliance

In compliance with Open Science guidelines, the journal Ensaio supports transparency and openness in the evaluation processes of research communication objects, provided that both authors and reviewers consent. Ensaio accepts preprint articles deposited in the SciELO Preprints or SocArXiv repositories. It also recommends that authors deposit their research data in open data repositories; should they choose not to do so, they must state the reasons for non-compliance, as specified in the author guidelines. For approved articles, the journal identifies the responsible editor and the ad hoc reviewer, provided the reviewer consents to the publication of their name. Ethics in Publication

Ensaio adheres to the guidelines of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), which aim to encourage the identification of plagiarism, malpractice, fraud, and potential ethical violations. Authors are encouraged to visit the COPE website to become familiar with the research ethics guidelines. Prior to manuscript submission, authors must explicitly reference data or interpretations of data from other publications. Care must be taken to properly cite other authors when writing articles that include a critical review of their intellectual content. Furthermore, all individuals listed as authors must meet at least one of the following two criteria: 1. Have contributed substantially to the conception and design, or acquisition of data, or analysis and interpretation of data; 2. Have contributed to the drafting of the article or its critical intellectual revision.
Ensaio will not accept the inclusion of additional authors after the first evaluation of the text has been sent to the author(s) registered at the time of submission. Ensaio only accepts current research, conducted up to three years prior to the date the text is accepted for evaluation. The journal only accepts articles based on recent references from the last five years, with a preference for scientific articles. Ensaio accepts research articles whose data have been collected within the last three years. "State-of-the-art" articles are only accepted if they are based on recent scientific literature. Essay-type articles will be published in a separate section. Names and email addresses on the journal's website will be used exclusively for the journal's stated purposes and will not be made available for any other ends. Signed articles reflect the opinions of their authors and not those of the Editorial Board, the Journal Council, or the Cesgranrio Foundation. Articles containing racist, sexist, misogynistic, xenophobic, or fascist ideas will not be accepted. The content of the manuscript is the responsibility of the author and co-authors but must comply with the journal's editorial policy. Ensaio is not responsible for the concepts expressed or the content of the ideas in signed articles. All works will be published in electronic format. Peer Review Process
|
Articles undergo a double-anonymous (double-blind) peer review system, in which two reviewers—members of the Boards or ad hoc contributors from different institutions—analyze the relevance of the contribution to existing knowledge in the field. The journal selects reviewers who are independent of the authors, meaning they are not affiliated with the same institution and are experts in the article's subject matter. The evaluation of preprint articles follows a semi-open model: the reviewer knows the identity of the author, but the author does not have access to the reviewer's identity. The review process may be fully open, depending on the agreement of both author and reviewer. All evaluations are mediated by the journal's editorial team. In the event of conflicting reviews (disparate opinions), the journal will select a third reviewer, a specialist in the subject, to resolve the evaluation. Once the requirements described above are met, articles are sent to reviewers via the Fundação Cesgranrio/Ensaio Journal Portal. In the case of non-preprint submissions, all author identification is removed to ensure anonymity. Article Evaluation Articles submitted to Ensaio undergo peer review in accordance with the editorial policy. The evaluation may follow a double-anonymous system for articles submitted directly through our platform; single-anonymous for articles originating from preprint platforms; or fully open evaluation for preprint articles in which both parties agree to disclose their identities. For more details, please refer to the Peer Review Process section in the journal’s editorial policy. Guidelines for Reviewers Specialists are requested to provide a detailed report analyzing the submission based on the following criteria: 1. Relevance of the Theme: Importance and pertinence of the subject to the specific field of study. 2. Scientific Contextualization: Existence of a consistent dialogue with established knowledge and academic production on the subject. 3. Bibliographic Quality: Pertinence and currency (up-to-datedness) of the bibliographic references used. 4. Study Definition: Clarity in the presentation of the research object, as well as in the definition of objectives and rationale. 5. Conceptual Precision: Rigor and accuracy in the use of the concepts presented. 6. Scientific Coherence: Theoretical-methodological consistency throughout the development of the work. 7. Statistical Rigor: Pertinence, clarity, and technical soundness of the statistical methodology employed. 8. Analysis and Argumentation: Argumentative solidity, adequacy, and well-grounded analysis of the results. 9. Structure and Writing: Quality of the text's structure and clear articulation between the ideas presented. Requests for Revision
After the evaluation, authors receive the reports issued by the reviewers, which may result in: acceptance of the original version, definitive rejection, a request for mandatory corrections, a recommendation to submit to another journal, a request to resubmit for a new evaluation after modifications (archiving the initial submission), or a request to review comments. The article must be revised and resubmitted to the journal (via the system) within a maximum of 30 days from the date of the revision request. If necessary, authors may contact the editorial team to request a deadline extension. The revised text must have all modifications highlighted in yellow. The Editor reserves the right to reject any article if the requested revisions are not met or if the manuscript is resubmitted after the deadline. Regarding publication, the final decision always rests with the Editor. If the article is not approved for publication after review, the journal will notify the author of the editorial decision via the journal portal and the submission will be archived. Note: The editorial process can be tracked through the Fundação Cesgranrio Journal Portal. After logging into the system and clicking on the active article, the author simply needs to access the "Review" (Avaliação) tab. The evaluation process typically lasts eight to ten months, and the period between submission and publication may take up to 12 months. Editorial assistants are always available to answer any questions regarding the article's editorial process via email. The final version of the article published in the journal includes the name of the Editor-in-Chief and the reviewer responsible for the peer review, provided the reviewer consents to the disclosure of their name. |

All articles resulting from original research must be submitted with a footnote on the first page regarding "Data Availability," stating whether the dataset will be made publicly available or not following the article's approval. In accordance with Open Science principles, it is important that research data be available for consultation by other researchers after the article is approved, subject to any public access restrictions imposed by the nature of the data. After the article's approval, it is necessary to indicate at the end of the manuscript the level of access defined for the data resources, using one of the following possible statements: *Data Availability: The dataset supporting the results of this study is not publicly available due to [specify reasons]. Ethics and Misconduct, Correction and Retraction Policy

The journal values best practices in science. Accordingly, it follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) regarding studies involving human subjects, providing clarity to authors and reviewers on conflicts of interest, the peer review process, plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and procedures for handling misconduct. At the time of submission, the author(s) must state that the article has not been simultaneously submitted to any other publication. Authors must confirm that interviews and experiments involving human subjects complied with the ethical procedures established for scientific research. Anonymity must be guaranteed for research subjects and, if necessary, for institutions, unless permission for identification has been granted; any authorization or restriction regarding identification must be stated in a note within the body of the article. The same principle applies to the publication of images of individuals and/or institutions. All projects involving human subjects—including those using secondary data, as well as sociological and anthropological research—must be submitted for review by a Human Research Ethics Committee. Upon approval of the article, the protocol number from the Research Ethics Committee of the author's institution must be provided in a footnote, whenever the research requires committee oversight. Policy on Conflict of Interest

A conflict of interest occurs when authors, reviewers, or editors have interests that may influence the preparation and evaluation of manuscripts. These conflicts can be of various natures—personal, commercial, political, academic, or financial—and anyone may be subject to them. For this reason, authors must acknowledge and disclose, in a concise statement at the end of the article, whether or not a conflict of interest exists. Editors and reviewers must indicate on the journal's platform whether any conflict of interest exists when invited to analyze a manuscript. The selection of the editor responsible for managing a manuscript takes into account personal and professional relationships between the editor and the authors to avoid potential conflicts. The act of submission implies the absence of financial, commercial, political, academic, or personal conflicts of interest. Authors must declare this at the end of the article. If there are potential conflicts of interest related to the research or the publication of the manuscript, authors must disclose the nature of the conflict in a footnote. Therefore, authors are responsible for recognizing and disclosing conflicts of interest of any nature (personal, commercial, financial, academic, or political). Ensaio reserves the right not to publish articles of a conflicting nature or those that may cause damage to its reputation or to others, and will notify the involved authors. Furthermore, the editorial board reserves the right to grant final approval prior to publication. |
Adoption of Similarity Software
|
The journal Ensaio reserves the right to scan manuscripts using PlagScan and CopySpider software to check for potential plagiarism before submitting them for peer review. The journal reserves the right to reject articles with high levels of similarity for evaluation. This policy includes self-plagiarism. It is the authors' duty to ensure the originality of the manuscript and to provide proper citations whenever portions of other works are used. Ensaio condemns plagiarism in all its forms and will contact authors whenever the percentage of similarity with other texts reaches high levels. In the event that plagiarism is confirmed, Ensaio reserves the right to decline any future submissions from the individuals involved. |
Adoption of Software Using Artificial Intelligence Resources

Every submission to Ensaio must strictly adhere to the principles of academic integrity and authorial responsibility. The use of AI tools is permitted under the strict condition of transparency, with full responsibility for the content remaining solely with the human authors. Authorship of published works belongs exclusively and entirely to human authors. Manuscripts in which authorship is, to any degree, attributed to or shared with AI tools will not be accepted. The journal Ensaio accepts manuscripts submitted through its platform anonymously, which will undergo a double-anonymous peer review process. Ensaio also accepts preprints, which follow a different evaluation model. Articles may be submitted in Portuguese, English, or Spanish. All approved works will receive a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) upon final publication in Ensaio: Avaliação e Políticas Públicas em Educação. Ensaio publishes original research articles in the field of Education. We accept theoretical and empirical studies, as well as systematic literature reviews that demonstrate:
Essay-type articles (ensaios) will be published in the "Página Aberta" (Open Page) section. Article Submission The journal accepts articles with up to four authors. At least one author must be affiliated with a Graduate Program in Education. In cases involving students, at least one of the authors must hold a PhD/Doctorate degree, except for authors with international institutional affiliations. Any exceptions to this rule will be discussed by the Editorial Committee. Original manuscripts must be submitted via the Fundação Cesgranrio Journal Portal at https://revistas.cesgranrio.org.br. Articles originating from preprints must be uploaded to the platform in Word format, including the names of the author(s) within the manuscript, along with the link to the preprint platform. To submit a manuscript, authors must first register on the journal portal, ensuring all mandatory fields (marked with an asterisk ‘*’) are completed. We request that the corresponding author identifies and includes all co-authors who effectively collaborated in the preparation of the article. All authors must accept responsibility for the work's content and register their respective contributions at the end of the manuscript in the event of acceptance for publication. Citations and references must be up-to-date, relevant, and pertinent. The journal only accepts articles grounded in references from the last five years. Authors are strongly encouraged to engage with papers published in relevant scientific journals to establish a consistent theoretical framework. Articles containing an excessive number of citations will not be accepted. References must be presented at the end of the article and entered into the metadata (Step 3 of the submission process on the portal). They must strictly follow the ABNT (Brazilian National Standards Organization) NBR 6023/2023 standards.
