Distance education and teacher training

This paper approaches Distance Education in Brazil from three different angles: after presenting the legislation, it describes the landscape of distance higher education (graduation): its short history and current performance, and then stresses the problems DE is creating for teacher training, especially in pedagogy courses. It then advocates the thesis that teacher training should be carried out in a classroom, which is the locus that condenses the culture of teaching and learning and involves human relationships essential for teaching.
