Proposals for Physical Education curriculum in Pernambuco: understanding about sport

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the perspectives by which the topic Sports was addressed in proposed curricula for physical education in the state of Pernambuco in the period between 1989 and 2010. For this purpose we conducted a documental qualitative study, with data collected from official documents of the state Department of Education available in print and digital formats. All the documents were treated by the categorial content analysis by theme. We can identify the permanence of the fundamentals of the object of study of physical culture, as well as the sports theme in all the examined proposals. Although the approach to the sports theme has not been the same in all proposals, there is a great similarity. We understand that in most cases there has been an effort to present sports in physical education classes not as a mere reproduction of high performance sports, referring to a broader approach on this phenomenon. We also identified that these efforts have not always shown coherence between the intentions of the content organization and the methodology proposed.
