Open-access GIFTEDNESS IN THE BRAZILIAN CONGRESS ON SPECIAL EDUCATION: A BIBLIOMETRIC STUDY OF SCIENTIFIC PRODUCTION

Giftedness fall within the field of Special Education but remain little known in many Brazilian contexts, which highlights the need for greater scientific attention to and dissemination of this topic. In this regard, this study aimed to analyze, based on bibliometric indicators, the scientific production on giftedness presented at the Brazilian Congress on Special Education (CBEE, acronym in Portuguese). This is a quantitative study that employed bibliometrics as a methodological tool to assess the academic field related to the topic, particularly in terms of the following variables: publication timeline, keywords, subthemes, authorship, and research methods. The corpus comprised 200 papers, and the results indicated that the highest number of publications on giftedness at CBEE occurred in 2018; the most frequently used keywords were “giftedness” and “special education”; authorship analysis revealed both a predominance of coauthored papers and diverse institutional contributions; the most recurrent subthemes associated with giftedness were “educational services” and “identification”; and research methods showed, finally, a prevalence of qualitative studies. It was concluded, through bibliometric analysis, that academic production related to giftedness requires greater visibility in the scientific community, so that this theme can expand like other areas of Special Education.
