Arquipélago identidade. O declínio do sujeito autocêntrico e o nascimento do eu múltiplo

For the occidental culture, the human identity has been, for a long time, a substance that develops itself along the life of an individual. In this research, the identity is considered a life story. Hence, not a transcendental a priori, but something that we leave behind and can only be expressed in the narration of a life story and the encounters that characterize it. In this sense, the identity isn’t equivalent to an autobiography, but to an identity that is by itself a biography. This means that the identity so understood not only is not substantial, monolithic, solitary, solipsist, but it is fundamentally plural. It could be defined as a relational identity that only happens when it encounters the other one: the other one who looks, who narrates and can express my identity very clearly, returning it to me as a form of narrated life story. This approach, which is strongly connected to the cultural psychology, intends to indicate a line of research that subtracts itself from the choice between homo natura and homo cultura and inaugurates a naturally cultural reflection and research: which is, in other terms, the question of a relational identity, after all.

Identity; cultural psychology; multiple ego; relational identity
